A Prayer for a2 Church - Day 1 of a2's 21-Day Prayer Challenge

A prayer for @a2 Church...

"I pray that @a2 Church would be this kind of church…

We extend a special welcome to people who are single, married, divorced, gay, straight, confused, filthy rich, dirt poor, yo no habla Ingles.

We extend a special welcome to those who are crying new-borns, skinny as a rail or could afford to lose a few pounds.

We welcome people who can sing like Andrea Bocelli o

r, like our pastor, who can’t carry a note in a bucket.

I pray that we would be the kind of church that welcomes people whether they're “just browsing,” just woke up or just got out of jail.

I pray that we would be the kind of church that doesn't care if a person is more Catholic than the Pope or sometimes wonders if they walked through the doors of a2 the roof might cave in…

I pray that we would always extend a special welcome to those who are over 60 but not grown up yet, and to teenagers who are growing up way too fast.

I pray that we would welcome soccer moms, NASCAR dads, starving artists, tree-huggers, latte-sippers, vegetarians, junk-food eaters, and good southern carnivores who love meat with their chili and a side of bacon with practically anything.

I pray that we would welcome those who are in recovery or still addicted.

I pray that we would welcome you if you’re having problems or you’re down in the dumps or if you don’t like “organized religion,” we’ve been there too.

I pray that we would be the kind of church that welcomes people who blew all their offering money at the dog track on Saturday night...

Father, let us be the kind of church that gives a special welcome to those who think the earth is flat, work too hard, don’t work at all, can’t spell, or only show up because grandma is in town and wanted them to go to church.

Father, I pray that we would welcome those who are inked, pierced or both.

I pray that we would offer a special welcome to those who could use a prayer right now, had religion shoved down their throat as a kid or got lost in traffic and wound up at a2 by mistake.

I pray that we would welcome tourists, seekers and doubters, bleeding hearts … and you!" — Inspired by Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Community

"Father, I long to see You build a dynamic Acts 2 biblically functioning community! We are desperate for you to build a church at a2, that not only touches our city, but reaches the region and beyond with the transforming power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

Work through us and in us, Oh, God! And in all things may Jesus Christ be glorified, honored and lifted high!!!

Amen!"
