SMILING ADDICTION

Art doesn't always have to be "uplifting" to be effective. Sometimes art leaves you with more questions than answers. Sometimes it evokes deep emotions in you that you were unaware even existed. Sometimes great art can make you weep, cry, mourn or repent.

Since we've been focusing on the subject of art and creativity over the past few posts, I thought I would share a video produced by Whitestone Motion Pictures. The video is not particularly uplifting. In fact, it's somewhat depressing. But it's powerful and it's truthful.

The song is well written. The vocal is delivered "spot on." And the visuals are moving. The song is about our vain search for this elusive thing called "happiness" and our tendency to self medicate in order to experience it. It's about our real need to be real, vulnerable, honest and authentic.

I think the writer of Ecclesiastes 7:3 nailed it when he wrote, "Sorrow is better than laughter, because a sad face is good for the heart."

Remember that the next time you just need to cry.

This is Smiling Addiction by Whitestone Motion Pictures.
