THE BARE NECESSITIES...
David Foster is an author and the founding and lead pastor of The Gathering in Nashville, TN. Yesterday David had a great post that provides perspective for up and coming church planters like me who sometimes get overwhelmed by all of the fine details that go into planting a church.
The post is titled: 3 Things You Don’t Need, But Think You Do; and 3 Things You Do Need, But Think You Don’t. Check it out here, and tell me what you think...
By the way, a few years ago, Mark Williams put me onto a great little book that helps remind us of the "bare necessities" when it comes to planting a "life-giving church." The book is titled: "When The Church Was Young."
Here are the chapter titles...
When the Church was Young, It Had:
* No Buildings
* No Denominations
* No Fixed Organization
* No New Testament
* No Vocabulary of Its Own
* No Dogmatic System
* No Sabbath Rest (in the Gentile World)
But It Did Possess:
* An Experience
* A Store of Teaching from Christ
* A Gospel
Simple, yet profound...
Foster's post and Loosley's book remind me, STAY FOCUSED ON THE ESSENTIALS... STAY FOCUSED ON WHAT REALLY MATTERS!
What about you: what are some things you think you need, but really don't? What are some things you're likely to think you don't need, but really do?

Better make up a lot of Kool-Aid for tommorow night doc! Man, Its exciting!Foster is so right...I truly believe that "Less Is More" works in the launch stages of a church. Focusing on the essentials keeps whats important at the top of the priority list..
Thanks, TR... We are praying for God to show up BIG TIME. Chris
